A Fairfax District original, Genghis Cohen has been serving NYC-style Chinese food to Angelenos and out-of-towners alike since ’83. Founded by music producer Allan Rinde, this was his ode to a cuisine…

The noodles were bland and overcooked. The beef and beef & broccoli was so chewy and again, bland. The Pork Dumplings were apparently scorching when they were put into the container because they melted together. The Crab Rangoon were five tiny twists the size of a tootsie roll. The NY style eggrolls were okay. Overall super disappointing and overpriced for one of the worst Chinese food dinners ive ever had.

I always order the steamed sole filet w/ fresh ginger. It's light and delicious! I ordered the lunch special and selected ginger chicken salad with there was an extra change. It came with extra dressing which is good but I wish I could have ordered dressing on the side because the salad was soggy on arrival. The dressing was a tad sweet for me since I don't like things with sugar. However it was balanced well with the ginger. Vegetable spring roll and sweet and sour soup were yummy! It was a value too. Most restaurants add a substantial fee because of Door Dash charges them. Thank you for not doing this Genghis Cohen. Much appreciated! I tend to not order from restaurants that up charge a lot. No wonder this restaurant has been around forever, it's great!

Beef & Broccoli was horrible. 90% broccoli and a very small amount of tasteless beef. I really don't understand why the owners choose the least expensive route with every choice.

This was the worst Cinese meal I have ever eaten in Los Angeles in the 40 years I've lived. I have been eating at Genghis Cohen for I believe e the entire time I've lived here. I used to look forward to their famous New-York style egg rolls. We were regulars on Sunday evening, but tonight, I can't even begin to describe how appaling it was. The filling of the egg rolls was tasteless. The oil in which they were fried was dirty and old. I threw out the steamed Pork Dumplings because they were leaden and dry. The mu shu pork was tasteless and greasy. No amount of hoisin sauce could save it. The orange peel chicken was fried in the same old, dirty oil and they was maybe a dab of sauce. Was it orange?? Who could tell. The meal cost $93 and we ate none of it. It's galling that this LA institution would think anything they served me tonight was of edible quality. Avoid at all costs. Whoever owns it now is relying on its old reputation to squeeze out what they can.
