It's a long time since I've said, "Wow!" upon the first bite of food from a restaurant new to me. Tonight, the calendar reset.
Dang, this food was good!
We ordered a street taco combo (3 tacos, beans, rice & drink), an extra taco, chips and salsa, and a serving of sour cream. I'm thrilled if rice and beans are at best bland, because bland is pretty typical, and "no, thanks!" is always a scary outlier. Not the rice and beans from Guadalajara Grill! Both were flavorful sides in their own right, not just decoration for tortilla chips.
The tacos were outstanding. We had two chile verde, a carnitas and an al pastor. All were exceptionally tasty, the meat cooked beautifully in each method, the chile verde bright, the seasonings truly masterful. Each had plenty of meat. I didn't want to stop eating them!
The side of tortilla chips could have been better separated; some were still a bit too greasy/rubbery because they failed to cook properly when stacked together. This isn't exactly a fault; we ate them and enjoyed them! The house salsa is thin, a beautiful red-brown, flavorful and heated, but not so hot it rips your lips off. We ordered an agua fresca but received horchata. A small mistake, and very forgivable since the horchata was yummy, not overpowered by cinnamon.
To finish, our order arrived thoughtfully packed for delivery. Everything was exactly the temperature it should be for eating right away. I liked that the lid of the serving tray easily tore off; it rested nicely on a plate, giving it a little sturdiness without making a huge mess transferring all the food out of the tray and onto a plate.
Superior job, Guadalajara Grill Taco Shop!
