Green Mesquite is solid. As a native Austinite, I've been eating there for years. It's been consistently good for as long as I can remember, with prices that are lower than the other bbq tourist traps of Austin.

So, as a Memphian, I knew the jokes about TX bbq. However, I wanted to give it a try. I'll start with the positives. The food wasn't dry, the skin on the chicken had a nice seasoning, the sausage was pretty good, and I liked the Pecan Pie Slice. I felt like the turkey and brisket were lacking flavor and I dont feel as though any of the 4 MEAT PLATE had a good smoke flavor or smell. It definitely wasn't the worst BBQ I've had but wasn't for me personally.

Well..... It's kind of edible? The ribs were really overcooked to the point that the meat was jerky-like. I'd stay away from them. The brisket was decent. Not too dry and not too fatty. The wings were absolutely terrible. They were slimy and rubbery all at the same time. The turkey was passable. The cobbler was promising, but as we dug in, it was pretty mushy but still tasty and with plenty of peaches. The Mac and Cheese was the best thing on the order.
I expected something a little more special after seeing this restaurant was covered by Guy Fieri.
