• DoorDash orderI remember when I used to visit Los Angeles I would make a b-line to that Johnny's pastrami location. Now it's not even a shadow of it's old self. The sandwich size has shrunk the pastrami has a different taste to it and it's overpriced to hell. I will not be ordering from here again.

• DoorDash orderBest pastrami I have ever had. That's literally all I can say. You will just have to see for yourself. The pastrami is so flavorful, the reuben was fantastic, the loaded fries with the pastrami bits. SENT ME. This might've been the happiest with food I have ever been!

Okay, when I reviewed earlier, we hadn't tasted the matzo ball soup yet, which just arrived.
Johnny's matzo ball soup has a much darker brother broth than I'm used to (evidence of real housemade soup) yet its taste was quite comforting (I was feeling under the weather.)
But that matzo ball . . . WOW!!! I haven't had one like that since we moved from NYC over 25 years ago, (and even then you had to know where to go). Not too big, not too small, not too dense or falling apart. Just delicately spoon/forkable, balancing on its trip from the bowl. I take a bite and . . . that mouth-feel! It had body but it's silky smooth -- little moist bits sliding against each other -- liquid gold! That is some Matzo ball! I should have ordered three of them. The noodles are super thin and kind of longish which I like. And the chicken had REAL chicken flavor (order extra if you like).
Next are the VEGETABLES. Real carrot! Real celery that we could tell were cooked FRESH and to the bite. No mush! Such a delightful extra. Will definitely be ordering this again with extra matzo balls (and extra vegetables!)
One final note, this soup was generously sprinkled with fresh dill weed and you could really taste it, which was great for me because I really do LOVE fresh Dill! But my wife doesn't. And dill it's not something you can try to ignore as you can with parsley. So, if dill is not your thing, ask them to leave it out. (If I had been in the restaurant, after gushing over the flavor of the soup and texture of the Matzo, I would have asked for a wedge of lemon to squeeze over the top.)
