FANTASTIC food from VL (Villa Lulu). Bucatini Amitriciana is one of the 4 classic pastas of Rome (along w/ Caccio/Pepe, Gricia & Carbonara). VL renders a faithful version, with generous portions of Pork product, and tomato. The tart tomato is like the sun, cutting the earthy and mysterious layering of fat & lean in the guanciale (pig cheek). The last piece of the puzzle is the Pecorino Romano, which represents the mountain freshness of the shepherd. All of these ingredients make this dish the quintessence of Lazio. Ah, what a noble & unappreciated animal the pig is. To sacrifice itself for our dining pleasure. The Romans recognize this even from ancient times. The standard of the 20th Legion was a Wild Boar. The grandeur of old Latium & Rome the eternal. Hail to Villa Lulu! (and the 20th -- Valeria Victrix)

We have enjoyed meals from Villa Lulu in the past. It has been a whilesince our last order, however. This meal did not, unfortunately, hit all the past high marks. The meals were tepid in temperature. The Linguini Cacio E Pepe was glued together, but tasty. My gnocchi dish was also delicious lovely sauce, toothsome gnocchi. Both pasta dishes were less generous than in the past and given the price. The artichoke appetizer, while generous in quantity, was virtually inedible. The pieces of deep-fried artichoke looked so crispy appealing but tasted neither of artichoke nor the lightly acidic packing liquid. All we tasted was cooking oil. One seemed to get a near mouthful of oil instead of nice vegetal texture and flavor. We each did not finish our portions. The Cannolis were ok. The shell was thick and not soggy. The filing was fresh, nice flavor. They were not presented as is the menu photo. The cannoli were missing the chopped pistachios . Instead a small amount of the nuts were tossed into the serving container. Food prices are high for restaurants right now, and places are often understaffed. Restaurants are working hardto stay aflo at. We get that. But the issues we experienced tonight could have been better managed.

We must recommend the EXCELLENT cuisine at VL (Villa Lulu) on College St New Haven. The Pappardelle Bolognese was DELIZIOSE: a complex sauce in which tart & fruity tomato shone through the generous amounts of Veal/ Beef, and a choice of pasta that complemented it well. The Scampi was swimming in a broth piquant w/ garlic, lemon juice, and capers. The Linguine alle Vongole was molto GUSTOSE, with all the elements one might expect garlic, parsley and fresh clams. The Aparagus was a refresh- ing counterpoint to the rich sauces of the other dishes. All in all, a GREAT DINING experience from Villa Lulu.

Home Made Lobster Ravioli the edge is hard. The sauce is nice, creamy but not too much. Eggplant Meatballs crispy skin and inside feels too much flour.

the Spicy Rigatoni alla Vodka is not that spicy and a bit overpriced I would try their other pastas like something you can't make at home 26 dollars for that was a lot. the Margherita was great though I would recommend it highly it's much Spicer than the rigatoni
