Sushi rolls were poorly packaged; some were sharing a container, so sauce moved from one to another in transit (the containers were placed on my porch sideways, so they had sloshed together). All rolls also arrived with little string things that detracted from the texture; I had to slowly pull them off. The Salmon House Roll had a weird metallic flavor, so I threw it out. The Miso Soup (vegetarian) was sweet instead of savory. The shrimp used in the Shrimp Tempura House Roll were not big enough for that roll; the end pieces had no meat attached to the tails. The Nitro Champion Roll had a nice topping and was the sole highlight.

i feel like there was a bit of false advertising with the Tofu Katsu Bowl because the steamed veggies mentioned in the description turned out to be ONE piece of broccoli and a few carrot sticks… really disappointing. the tofu was okay but it was really watery inside the breading as if the tofu hadn't been drained at all prior to breading. there was also only one tiny little cup of sauce provided for the whole dish, nowhere near enough since the bowl was more than half white rice.
unfortunately, the lid of the dipping sauce for the Vegetable Tempura Appetizer came off in transit to us and poured all over inside the box, so we received the tempura already soaked in the sauce which made it soggy and the breading just slid off any time we picked a piece up… the veggies were nice and fresh and cooked well though, and the sauce had a nice flavor. this was an accident of course, so hopefully the packaging issue is something they'll fix so it doesn't happen again because i think the tempura would've been great otherwise!

I'm a long time fan of Hooked on Sushi in Carlsbad and was so glad that there was one in San Marcos where I live. My reg order is the Sashimi Roll and a tuna cut roll that, while becoming more and more and more expensive, has never failed me...until yesterday. I ordered through DoorDash (which I have done before) and the first thing I noticed (besides the very small cuts) was that the fish in both rolls were very pale in color, the cuts were extremely thin, the rice was mushy and the result was tasteless and frankly just weird. I have never had bad sushi at Hooked On, or any place else in the past 20 years, until yesterday. What a shame. I would hesitate to recommend this location at this time, something's off.

Normally I love hooked on for the value and quality but it was not great tonight. The Miso Soup had one piece of seaweed and two pieces of tofu in it and the fish in the rolls was not very fresh. Might be better in person
