BEEN SERVING WINNIPEG SINCE 1987 Johnny G’s Restaurant & Bar first opened its doors in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada in 1987, the name proudly taken from founder and current owner, Johnny Giannakis. At the…
IT is my ultimate favorite go to spot for the last 30 years. I went there soooo many times after going to grapes on main, wth my boyfriend and our HUUGGEE FRIEND GROUP Usually more guys than gals tagged along for the ride. Also after sorority or fraternity formals at the FORT GARRY HOTEL; Johnny's was as well our final stomping ground after the formal(s)were finished for the night and Johnny's was always open so late back then! It had become more ecclectic as " the blue note" whch was next door. So many great meals, so much fun always had at our 3 tables pushed together back then; I don't remember it being as busy as it is today. Johnny ( the original) always came out to say hi and usually gave us an appetizer or2 " on the house" as WE WERE THERE ALMOST EVERY WEEKEND: Friday Saturday , EVEN SUNDAY.I no longer am with that boyfriend I had then; I married him, moved to the US to a very , very sall town in Wyoming, called Worland which had 200 people including the cows as well. I moved home after a horrid divorce took place , and I was happier than at that moment.
Now I order Johnny's not just for the nostalgia it brings back in the 90's and eary2000's ; it's always been a comfortable fit with whatever is going through my life; I always have the appetite to eat chicken fingers and the famous Greek salad I always ordered with extra EVERYTHING ( I did pay for the extra additions .)
The quality, quantity of food you receive has never changed. You always got( and still do) GET way more than you paid for in the freshness of any item on the menu,as well as a bonus.....the wonderful aromas from the kitchen.
To sum it up ; this is just good old homestyle dishes made with love, whether I eat in the restaurant or order door dash delivery at Midnite or earlier if I can't wait any longer.
I truly believe that like kelekesis, ( which sadly closed ) years ago now),it's a WONDERFUL part of Winnipeg culture and the amazing varieties of cuisine you can have.

I ordered the bacon cheeseburger with fries and it tasted fantastic! The burger was huge, full of toppings and sauce plus 3 full-sized pieces of bacon. It was a very generous serving size of fries and the gravy was good too (gravy was an add-on for an extra fee).
The best part? The meal cost only $15 (before tip, delivery was free)! Great food at a great price!

Second time ordering from here. The Chicken Fingers Platter are so delicious. I ordered them last time as well and they are just awesome. They are thick with tender chicken and are juicy. These are what chicken fingers should be. A thin layer of coating and lots of real chicken meat. Came with fries which were also really good and they put ketchup in there this time which was great. The Chicken Fingers Platter comes with a delicious honey dill garlicky sauce that is very tasty. These chicken fingers are honestly probably some of the best I've had from a restaurant in Winnipeg. I've tried leopolds, A&W, and many other places and they have barely any chicken they're mostly hard crispy coating and they're disappoint but these chicken fingers from Johnnys are so thick and juicy and delicious. You get 5 fingers. Which are about about the length of my finger. They're not huge chicken fingers but they're thick and chubby. I got the peppercorn steak and fettuccine last time I ordered and the fettuccine was pretty tasty so this time I wanted to try the Chicken Mushroom Alfredo. It was so good! The noodles were cooked perfectly this time (last time they were a bit undercooked). They have the right amount of sauce, which tastes great. There wasn't much chicken, could use a bit more but for the price this was awesome. You could also smell the fresh mushrooms as soon as you take the lid off the fettuccine. It reminds of pasta from Red Lobster or Olive Garden. I've had fettuccine Alfredo from Earl's on main which you'd think would be good but was awful. It was plain and boring, and expensive. But this Alfredo from Johnny's was really good! I would definitely order these two meals again. They will be a go to for me for sure. I wish you could get an order of their chicken fingers without the fries, but that's ok. I'm not much of a fry person. I would also really like to try one of their milkshakes next time. I highly recommend these two dishes! You won't regret these two choices. Absolutely delicious and the prices are unbeatable. I will be a regular customer!

I ordered the Chicken Fingers Platter, and it was delicious and fairly-priced! The chicken is moist and flavourful, and I bet other chicken fingers are jealous of them. The dip, fries and gravy were also very good. Thank you for not forgetting the gravy.
