Au Za’atar is a Lebanese / Middle Eastern restaurant which has quickly become a destination in the East Village for New Yorker's and tourists…
We had dinner there last night, and I couldn't stop thinking about the food, so I had to order it again this morning for brunch. The Wara'a Enab Bi Zeit was so delicious, and the Jebne Manouche and Foul Medamas were to die for. Honestly, each appetizer was better than the last. We also had the mini shawarma experience for dinner, which was really cool and also very yummy.
The service was top notch. Everyone was friendly.

Food was incredible!! The real deal. the freshness of the olive oil and tomatoes and cucumbers tastes like you're in the Mediterranean, the Labne tastes home made and perfectly sour.

The $20 - Halloum Mekli came with 3 pieces. Ridiculous. The - Fattet Djaj tasted old.

Arayes Kafta tasted great, cooked well, and it came with herbs sprinkled on top in a nice little presentation box. I enjoyed the different sauces it also came with (or is normally provided?) that I didn't need the garlic toum. The knafeh was not as stringy or crispy on top as I was expecting... too mushy overall... so probably won't be getting that again. However, I'm still curious to try their other dishes!

Shish Tawook Platter (Chicken Kebab) was delicious but the portions are extremely small compared to its location down town in the east village.
