• DoorDash orderI recently door-dashed this restaurant, and while it has some caveats, it also has the potential to be something truly special. With a tweak or two, their Italian sub could easily crack my top 10 in Boston, maybe even my top 5.
Pros:
1. Great ingredients: The sweet coppa was outstanding, and the choice of meats complemented each other perfectly.
2. Vegetables done right: The tomatoes and onions were carefully prepped through a slicer, the lettuce was super fresh and perfectly cut, and the hots were authentic and delicious.
3. Good portion size
4. Fair price
Cons:
1. Bread confusion: I didn’t get the bread pictured in the menu. Choices were a) focaccia (+$2.00), b) piada (like an Italian wrap), or c) panini (grilled/pressed). I wanted the Italian bread in the picture, but the options were confusing, so I chose focaccia as the safest bet.
While it was a good focaccia, it was a bit salty and didn’t hold up well with the sandwich. More like a cookie or cracker. Focaccia is made with oil and not kneaded like a traditional Italian roll so the gluten doesn’t emerge which gives it the crispy outside and soft chewy inside. An Italian grinder roll would have been perfect.
2. Forgot the olive oil and vinegar: The sandwich would have been amazing with a nice Italian oil and balsamic glaze. Fortunately, I had some at home.
Other thoughts:
- The cannolis were great, although the cherries were unnecessary and softened the shell. The filling was fantastic—both sweet and savory—with crispy, flavorful shells. The price and serving size were perfect.
This isn’t criticism—just some constructive feedback because I believe this place has the potential to be a top 5 Italian spot in Boston, maybe even ousting some favorites like Bills, AP, or the Dirty Italian (though probably not Monica’s).
With a few tweaks, I’m confident it will shine. For now, I’m giving it a 4/5—execution was a 3/5, but the quality and price were 5/5. I will definitely order again and hopefully write another review about the Italian sub roll.
