This is always a great option to eat at. It's my third favorite Mexican food restaurant I've ever eaten at, behind only the late, great, El Toro at Cedar and Shields, and my current favorite one, Café Leon at Blackstone and Ashlan. The food is always fantastic, and the long-time waitress is very friendly. I think she's the manager now.
I usually get the 3-item combo with a shredded beef taco and enchilada, and a bean and cheese burrito with guacamole. At this Mexican restaurant, I usually get all beans with no rice. If you like a little kick to your food, PLEASE ask for the "behind the counter" spicy sauce in place of the regular salsa they bring with chips. I like sauce on my food, and this one tastes great. Items with chicken are a great option as well. The ground beef is just like everywhere else... VERY bland and uneventful. I have no idea why so many people love ground beef so much. Yawn.
The tostada compuesta is excellent too, the Chimichangas are very good, the Super Nachos are off the charts, and just a regular tostada is fantastic. The table chips are above average and are seasoned well with a red spice. The salsa is good for chips, but not as much for rice or food. Again, the behind the counter sauce is better for food, as well as the Tapatío Hot Sauce on the table. Prices are fairly reasonable. Probably the biggest advantage this place has over most Mexican restaurants is that they serve Pepsi products over the overrated and foul tasting Coca-Cola products, and they also have the delicious Cherry Pepsi, along with Mountain Dew, Mug Root beer, Stormy, Dr. Pepper, and I think Orange Crush too. Compare that to Coke's pitiful lineup of Coke, Sprite and Dr. Pepper! I highly recommend El Rodeo Restaurant in Clovis, CA!!
