La Spaghettata is the epitome of classic Italian cuisine. It has established itself as one of Melbourne's most beloved Italian restaurants, thanks to its lovely 40-year heritage.

... (NB: Continued from 1/2)... anyway, the panna cotta was of exceptional quality, generous proportions, beautifully fashioned and was of sublime texture and taste and accompanied by a tart, mixed-berry compote, how I favour. Truly, it could not have been better. Even though there were problems with the order, the quality of produce and execution, were of standard. They catered to most of my additional requests. Five Stars without reservation: absence of veal, bacon and cutlery, forgiven and forgotten. 2/2

All of the previous, at least three, orders I have had from this vendor have been disappointing and not of standard. So, God knows why, on whim, I placed my dinner meal order with them this evening. I ordered Tortellini Alla Panna and Panna Cotta and asked for extra chilli, as I like it hot, fresh shaved parmesan, if possible on the side and cutlery. I didn't exactly get what I ordered, as there was no veal, nor even cheese in the tortellini, only pasta, all the way through. But, the pasta was perfectly cooked. There was also no bacon evident in the sauce, which was somewhat disappointing. They provided parmesan, but it was neither fresh, nor shaved, it was just stock Austrian powdered, but not vulgar 'chuck-cheese'. They added four whole fresh chillis of different kinds to the sauce, one variety I have never had before. They looked heirloom varietals and were excellent. The sauce was a bounty of high-quality cream and tasted truly delicious. I was annoyed as there was no cutlery. 1/2

Grilled Rib Eye was bland, cooked to well done and tasted more boiled than grilled. The 'chips' that it came with was just a quarter of an undercooked potato.
The Spaghetti Marinara was extremely salty, and the pasta was full of broken clam shells scattered around the pasta. Each bite came will a little bit of broken shell.

Well, that was the most unusual Lasagne I have ever had! It was so liquid, it was like a soup. It was more like a soup with meat and pasta, somewhat like a Minestrone derivative, than Lasagne. It also, rather unusually and disappointingly, contained no cheese. To rub insult into injury, you gave me a chinotto instead of a pear juice. All in all, you didn't win a repeat customer.

This is the blandest pasta I have ever tried in my life. Please don't order from here. Plenty of other nice places
