This is the best tasting indian food in san diego. it is more sophisticated than other restaurants. The tikka masala is fantastic. I've eaten at lots of other indian places and it just tastes better. I also like that there are traditional items that are different from normal American menus. I was introduced to Sambar Idli and it is DELICIOUS, highly recommend. It is enough for a meal. My only complaint is that the Papadum only comes with a few tiny pieces -- not enough to be worth $4, and the chutney is also a teeny tiny amount of 2 kinds - tamarind and mint cilantro, not worth $4.

The Goat dum biriyani is not at all worth it. The rice is very dry. Very less pieces. It feels like just normal rice tossed with some masala and goat pieces mixed. Other stores like Pista house has really good biriyani.

Chhole Bhature comes with only one bhatura with no pickle or onions. Chole was watery and oily. onion pakoda had bitter aftertaste.

Maysore Masala Dosa was a little stale and smelled over fermented. It also didn't come with any condiments like chutneys. The Chhole Bhature had one single bhatura/bread as opposed to the standard two. I don't know what happened to Madras Cafe's quality control in the past year or so. They used to be significantly better.

The Garlic Naan was delicious. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala, and I was really disappointed how small the to go port was for the full dinner menu price. It was the size of a side dish, so if you're looking for something bigger you might want to order two items.
