The broccolini soup was the star of my lunch. It was unexpectedly spicy, soothing, very rich, and creamy. The morning bun had a faint orange zest flavor and a very soft fluffy texture. Egg salad sandwich is now my go-to for lunch other than the tuna and turkey sandwiches.

I've been getting DoorDash from Tartine Inner Sunset for years now. I LOVE it. I was disappointed when I couldn't find the Poppyseed Coffee Cakes in my order, but discovered that even though they were on my receipt, they'd been refunded online without my knowing. Close, that! I almost had a melt-down. Those are my favorite "Viennoiserie" at Tartine these days. They are so redolent of chocolate swirled inside a soft pastry shell. They even have a coffee glaze that perfects these delicacies. So I'll have to order earlier next time. One thing that definitely made up for their absence was the STRAWBERRY LEMON DANISH that I'd only managed to snag once before -- they run out of it so often. It's possibly the most beautiful of all of Tartine's pastries. And it's divine; even the flower is delicious. The three things I always get whenever I order here are 1) the OMELETTE, which is almost always light and fluffy, containing only cheese and herbs -- exactly as I'd prepare it if I made it myself -- no brown edges or raw egg within. It was perfection. 2) the SMOKED SALMON TARTINE, with only salmon, lemon rind slivers, and a tiny amount of whipped cream cheese. (I could happily forego the pickled carrots, but until they provide that option on the menu, I'll continue to compost them). And 3) PAIN AU JAMBON, with a perfect amount of cheese and ham inside that generous, soft and flakey croissant -- a lovely lunch all by itself. The STRAWBERRY RHUBARB HANDPIE was also delicious, easy to eat and makes a great breakfast all by itself. I suppose one advantage of Tartine's running out of its bakery items so often is that the pastries you do manage to get are always fresh. I've never had anything from any of the three Tartines that wasn't perfectly fresh. This time, I managed to hold-off and take a picture of the gorgeous STRAWBERRY LEMON DANISH before eating it.

This "store" was always at the top of my hit-list. Until THIS order. While the SMOKED SALMON TARTINE was excellent, and the PAIN AU JAMBON and EGG SANDWICH were delicious as always, the CHOPPED APPLE & WALNUT SALAD was disgusting. Actually, I was enjoying it until I realized it contained (not one, not two, but) THREE LARGE LETTUCE-HEAD STEMS. I could perhaps forgive one, but these were gigantic. I can't understand how they "accidentally" found their way into an otherwise-beautiful (and spendy) salad. Also, while the OMELETTE was very good, I had requested NO Side Salad under the New Special Request Options -- which restaurateurs consistently ignore.

The SMOKED SALMON TARTINE was perfect, as always. I try to have salmon at least once/week as my late mother advised (she went to U. of Rochester Nursing School, which requireda min. of 1 yr Nutrition). She was absolutely right about everthiing nutrition-wise (she forbade us eating pistachios dyed red as she insisted the red dye was a carcinogen. We had to go all the way to Atlantic Av. in Brooklyn to get pistachios that were undyed. We were also forbidden to have white bread or white sugar). The only thing she was INCORRECT about nutrition-wise was CAROB. It may look like chocolate, but there is no way it TASTES like chocolate. The PRESSED HAM & GRUYERE SANDWICH is also marvelous.I don't usually like white bread or ham, but the crunchiness of this bread's crust when it's toasted is so satisfying. And filling. The OMELETTE is superb. When it's scrambled "soft" (neither runny nor brown-edged), it is the best omlette around. I opted for an extra scrambled egg, but they didn't add it to the omlette; they added in yet another container (fortunately, compostable), all by itself. It was so weird-looking, I had no idea what it was at first. The HAM & CHEESE CROISSANT SANDWICH was very good. (The egg is soft-boiled, unlike the Mnsr. Croc). Tartine's Croissants are impeccable. Perfection.

The SMOKED SALMON TARTINE is perfect and very filling. The Spring Salad looks perfect, but I have yet to try it (I eat Italian style -- the salad AFTER the entree). I had the PRESSED HAM & GRUYERE SANDWICH last time, and it was so good, I ordered again. I look forward to trying the BANANA CREAM TART which somehow ran out last time I ordered. The LEMON ALMOND POPPYSEED TEA CAKE was good when I had it years ago. I'm so glad Tartine opened this bakery. I used to live near their Mission District bakery, so I'm so glad they've opened the Sunset one as I can walk to it.
